Psalm 62:6 “He, the LORD only is my Rock, my Salvation and He is my Defense; I/we shall not be moved.” “Keeping it real” due to life storms, winds, devastating events that may have included repeated past or current trauma or abuse which occurred for longer to shorter periods of times has led many to the state of being MOVED; to distrust, unbelief, fear, anxiousness and more sets in.
Yet nothing is too hard for God. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me,” an individual journey. However the grief or problem severity may suggest the need for professional mental health services. Throwing it out there, no need for shame or to say, “God is going to fix this.” We should trust God in all of our situations.
What if your leg was broken, sick and don’t know why or swollen gums and tooth ache would you go to emergency, contact your doctor and/or visit the dentist? I would say, yes! So why is it so hard to seek mental health help? Think about it? Mental health challenges results to depression, physical illness, as well as, life and death. Therefore God has put trained and licensed professionals to be a present help. In all that you and I do, trust God as you consult and vet your mental and/or physical health providers. You may be already engaged.
Question: How can you/I get our faith up to believe and trust the LORD to be My-your personal Rock, Salvation and Defense?
First let’s begin with identifying scriptures—God’s Word for understanding faith, to believe and trust God. Hebrews 11:1(KJV) “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence (the proof) of things not seen. (ESV) “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction (to believe) of things not seen.” Biblical dictionary, “Faith is trusting in something you cannot explicitly (clearly) prove.” Even though you don’t see the change yet in what you prayed for, you still believe and have hope that God is working it all out for your good!
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. This scripture speaks of repetition to build faith, to internalize the Word of God for daily living.
(Hebrews 11:6) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
John 14:12-14 (ESV) “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in My name, I will do it (a promise).”
Jeremiah 17:7–8 “Blessed is the man and the woman who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Read Psalm 1:1-3.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding (what to do and not to do).
We must or may need to increase faith, belief and trust therefore read and apply scriptures above to your present situations. Then to rely on God as “My Rock, My Salvation and My Defense.
Second My-personal-just for you-God sees, hear, answers & loves you!
Psalm 62:7 ”He [LORD] only is My Rock, My Salvation and My Defense; I shall not be moved. A metaphor “a rock to My Rock.” We find Diabase to be one of the hardest rocks in the world due to its compression (firmness) and tension (pressure). Yet rocks continues to change because of heat and other elements, but MY ROCK [Jesus] is unchanging regardless of weather patterns, the way we act or think. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Another testimony of Jesus, My Rock - 1 Corinthians 10:4 KJV — And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” God as a Rock speaks of His provision that is a firm and unshakeable foundation for all who trust in Him. It speaks of the stability and protection provided by Yahweh (reference Precept Austin) . Yahweh is the “I Am, Absolute, Utterly Independent, No Beginning and The No End. Do you have any words to describe Yahweh?
Salvation - Ephesians 2:8 ”For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. First Peter 1:2-5 excerpt ”Elect (you are the elect-chosen by God) according to the foreknowledge of Him, God the Father, through sanctification (set apart) of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood (for forgiveness & restoration) of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Read the Bible for 3-5, blessing! Then John 10: 27-29 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 3:16 is one of the greatest verses given by God-Himself, that tells of His love, sacrifice, invitation to believers and the promise of eternal life for you.
Defense 1. 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify (means your heart is set aside for God-His domain) Christ as LORD in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence." (A testimony of what the LORD has done for you.) One example-I was driving on the expressway, saw a car speeding behind me. I saw no room for them to go around me. Therefore bracing for the crash. Nobody but God…they zipped through on the right side against the edge of the highway.

Ephesians 6:10-18 Excerpts “Finally, my brethren (the beloved which is you), be strong in the LORD, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Then praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Revelation 7:10: "And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sits upon the throne, and unto the Lamb." Acts 4:12: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
When you and I allow our hearts to become more of God’s dwelling place, we will then become more secure in our faith, to believe and trust “He the [LORD] only is my-personal Rock, my-personal Salvation and my-personal Defense: I shall not be moved (Psalm 62:7);” despite the storms and winds of life troubles.
