You Can't Hurry Love
Lyrics Excerpts

I need love, love to ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine
But mama said you can't hurry love
No you just have to wait
She said love don't come easy
It's a game of give and take

You can't hurry love
No, you just have to wait
You gotta trust, give it time
No matter how long it takes
But how many heartaches must I stand
Before I find a love to let me live again
Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on
When I feel my strength, yeah, it's almost gone

How long must I wait how much more can I take
Before loneliness will 'cause my heart, heart to break?
No, I can't bear to live my life alone
I grow°

Can't hurry love

No love, love don't come easy
But I keep on waiting, anticipating for that
Soft voice to talk to me at night
For some tender arms to hold me tight
I keep waiting; I keep on waiting
But it ain't easy, it ain't easy when mama said

You can't hurry love no
You just have to wait

Lyric Excerpts
You Can't Hurry God

You can't hurry God no, no.
No You Just have to wait
You have to Trust Him and give Him time children
No matter how long it takes

God you know, He's a God you can't hurry
He'll be there, you don't have to worry
You know may not, he may come when you want Him
But He's right on time

Oh you know Job, oh Job was sick so long
Until, the flesh fell from his bones
They tell me that His wife, cattle and children

Yeah everything he had was gone
He said, "Lord you put these afflictions upon me
Come on and see about me"
He may, He may not come when you want
But He is right on time

Don't worry, my Savior
You know something?
He is coming, my Savior
He's coming in the morning
Someday be riding in a chariot
Don't let Him catch you with your work undone

It seems the songwriters of "You Can't Hurry Love" sought to mirror "You Can't Hurry God" to captivate their targeted audiences in sharing the heartaches of finding and waiting on love. You Can't Hurry Love is a romantic love song known as Eros. I believe to be romantically in love is one of the foundations leading to a solid and lasting marriage. It helps to combat the emotions of defeat and hopelessness during marital challenges. Similar to most broken relationships for survival and restoration one must identify the love that brought them together; and the great moments and victories shared during positive and/or difficult times. Yes, there are extreme circumstances such as patterns of domestic violence leading to irreconcilable relationships. Ones' safety is most important.

To love someone includes respecting them. A woman must respect her husband. We are reminded of Queen Vashti. She was beauty to behold and the wife of King Ahasuerus. Never-the-less she "Disrespected" her man, the king, in front of everybody. A man's pride is "Everything" to him. The king was probably drunk, but not enough to hinder consulting his wise men about the matter. As a result Queen Vashti lost her position and never appeared before the king again. King Ahasuerus made a royal decree and sent letters throughout his empire that all wives will honor their husbands, both great and small. Read Esther, an Old Testament book that can be found after Nehemiah to learn more. Ladies you may imagine, "That was back then." However as we think about it, the principle continues relevant for today. Love does include respect!

Agape, an unconditional love for people revealed in a tune by the late Michael Jackson/Group titled, "We Are The World, We Are The Children."

Today the world, governments, communities, neighborhoods, homes, workplaces, churches and wherever people gather, need more love to overcome ill will against others. The bottom-line is we all love someone and/or something. Two basic life fundamentals to increase empathy and caring behaviors are: (1) to treat others how we want to be treated; and (2) to put ourselves in the other person's place.  For instance, my values consist of fair treatment, good communication and respect. Therefore I will treat others fair, demonstrate good listening skills and give others the opportunity to share their emotions. We love our mother, father, brother, sister, child, first cousin, cat, dog, and/or you state what you love. When harm and danger impact others and what is important to us, we normally feel or demonstrate empathy and caring emotions. Therefore to put ourselves in the other person's place, it is easier to imagine, feel and demonstrate empathy and caring behavior towards them.

The flip side is everyone's values, thoughts and feelings are not similar. Folks live in different cultures and the way of life is based on their belief system and the norm. Folks can grow up in the same house with different values. The question is how does one bridge the gap to love others despite of our differences? We must identify our commonalities and strategically plan to build and mend relationships. Kingian Nonviolence principle #2, "The Beloved Community is the Goal" https://thekingcenter.org/king-philosophy/.

Again agape love reminds me of the unconditional love Christ has for the entire world. In paraphrasing "To declare I love God, but not His Son and people; then I am a liar" (1 John 4:20-5:10). God loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son that hung and died upon a tree. Jesus was buried, rose from the dead, returned to Heaven seated on the Right Side of His/our Father. Jesus demonstrated a sacrificial act of unconditional love for mankind which includes everyone. The purpose of Jesus' unconditional love continues to restore our broken relationship with our Father because of sin; and offers us salvation. Therefore, what is love?  Love is a complex set of emotions, behaviors, and beliefs associated with strong feelings of affection, protectiveness, warmth, and respect for another person. Love can also be used to apply to non-human animals, to principles, and to religious beliefs. For example, a person might say he or she loves his or her dog, loves freedom, or loves God (Good Therapy).

The love of God! He loves us so much, but "You Can't Hurry God."  According to 2 Peter 3:8 (KJV)  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the LORD as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. We can also call God Timeless! He is already known as the "Ancient One"-Before time. Dorothy Love Coates & the Gospel Harmonettes said, "He is coming, my Savior. He's coming, in the morning. Someday be riding in a chariot. Don't let Him catch you with your work undone." Therefore you and I do not have 1,000 years to get our lives together that will please God. Not to create fear, but encouragement to increase our love for God. Our love is increased through prayer, meditation in the Word, worship, fellowship with other believers, helping others and discipleship.

The lyrics in "You Can't Hurry Love, No, you just have to wait. You gotta trust, give it time; no matter how long it takes, but how many heartaches must I stand; before I find a love to let me live again? Right now the only thing that keeps me hanging on; when I feel my strength, yeah, it's almost gone." Ah, why does it seem like we go through so much in relationships? Primarily because the Word says, "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD" Proverbs 18:22 (KJV). Many times females chase the men looking for love. The key words of this scripture are "He finds a wife." Yet more heartaches in relationships that seems to frustrate us more, because God was not included. Let the man chase us! Matthew 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;

and all these things shall be added unto you." Moreover if we put God first in our lives, then He will give us the desires of our hearts. We will learn how to wait, how to be patient for our desires while living to please God. I believe God will give us our man. It is never too late once we have decided to live for Christ—not selfishly for ourselves. Read again the paragraph above to increase our love for God. But to God be the glory!

Moreover the negative experiences works for the good of those who love the LORD. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" Romans 8:28. For instance read about Rahab in Joshua 2nd chapter. Rahab was a harlot known as a prostitute. Joshua the leader of the Israelites sent two spies to gather information about Jericho in preparation for an invasion of the land. The spies sought a place where they would not be conspicuous. Out of God's sovereign providence, His absolute power, control, will and provision, He wanted them in place for the salvation of Rahab, the prostitute. She provides an example of God's saving grace because of her faith. Rahab was a woman at the bottom of social status. More importantly the lessons learned are: (1) Rahab was saved by God's grace because of her faith; and (2) Rahab is part of the Messianic line, the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Rahab the least, was chosen to be part of God's best!

Therefore, God's grace is for everyone that believes in Jesus Christ. It does not matter how one previously lived. What matters now is your confession of faith in Christ. Like Rahab, you are destined for greatness beyond your imagination. What are your dreams, goals and talents? Put them to work for Christ. Focus on what God has given you to bless your family and others. Then you are blessed more and in due season.

In "You Can't Hurry God", the songstress sings about Job. The lyrics are "How he had been sick for so long; until, the flesh fell from his bones. They tell me that His wife, cattle and children yeah everything he had was gone." He said, "Lord you put these afflictions upon me." According to the Book of Job, He (Job) was rich, blameless, upright and feared God; however not perfect without sin. God allowed Satan to test Job, but not take his life. You see Satan fooled himself and thought he could cause Job to curse God. Satan had already become big-headed since he was beautiful and powerful in heaven. His desire to be God resulted to a "Beat down." Satan, known as Lucifer and his cohort of fallen angels battled against Michael, the Archangel and his angels. Satan and the fallen angels were cast out of heaven. Satan lost his heavenly position and is on a mission to lead us to destruction and hell. After all he was the culprit that led Adam and Eve to sin. Thus God put Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. More on Satan. He was desperate and crazy enough to tempt Jesus three times. Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve." Read Matthew 4:1-11. Yet, he continues to disguise himself in gorgeous ways to get our attention for his good; but not ours. We must be aware and not ignorant of Satan's devices.

Never-the-less Job withstood the test. Despite his losses, pain and suffering, he never cursed God. Hence Job wished he was never born and wanted to die. He felt so low, similar to us often times because of life struggles and pain. Remembering "We Can't Hurry God." We continue to cry out for God's help and mercy while learning to be patient and wait. James 1:2-4 "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." Finally, Job was restored and gained more than he lost. What if God does not restore us like Job? He may not give us the response that we want. However like the songstress said, "He is coming, don't worry." Continue to love and trust Him. God will speak His Word to your heart and shower you with His love for comfort and sustainability. Let not God's Word and love become of no value to us. He is more than able to keep you and me. For example: "My son is sick, death in the family, I don't have enough money to pay my bills and I feel unloved." Keep praying; keep trusting; and keep doing good according to the power of Christ that lives in you. Like, "You Can't Hurry Love, You Can't Hurry God; but He (God) is right on TIME!"
